ICHTH–INTH Book Prize for the History and Theory of Historiography: 2024 ICHTH–INTH BEST BOOK AND BEST FIRST BOOK

Update 1 May 2024: On 24 April 2024, the Prize Committee of the 2024 ICHTH–INTH Book Prize for the History and Theory of Historiography, consisting of Berber Bevernage, Lizette Jacinto, Lieze Kriel, and Marek Tamm, has reviewed and assessed all submissions published in 2021, 2022 and 2023 for the Best First Book (4 submissions) and Best Book (13 submissions). The Committee decided not to make a shortlist for the Best First Book. It also decided to shortlist three books for the Best Book:

  • Christophe Bouton, L'Accélération de l’histoire: Des Lumières à l’anthropocène (Paris : Seuil, 2022).
  • Jörg van Norden, Verlust der Vergangenheit: Historische Erkenntnis und Materialität zwischen Wiedererkennen und Befremden (Frankfurt am Mainz: Wochenschau Verlag, 2022).
  • Gunnar Schumann, Historical Explanation: An Anti-Causalist Approach (London: Routledge, 2023).

The names of the two laureates (Best First Book and Best Book) will be announced at the fifth INTH Conference in Lisbon during an award ceremony on Friday 24 May 2024 at 17 hours. The ceremony can also be followed online. Two fora on the winning books will be published in the journal Storia della Storiagrafia.

In 2013, the ICHTH established a Prize to honor a scholar whose recent work (book or doctoral dissertation) significantly contributed to the fields of history and theory of historiography.
